Privacy Policy Landlord app BeBelong

Effective Date: April 21, 2025

At BeBelong, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency in how your personal information is handled. This Privacy Policy outlines the types of information we collect, how it is used, and the measures we take to safeguard your data when you use our mobile and web applications. By accessing or using our Services, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

For Landlords:

  • Account Information: When you create an account as a landlord, we collect your name, email address, phone number, property details, and payment information (to set up your payment method for collecting rent or other service payments from tenants).
  • In-App Wallet Information: To facilitate payments for advertisements (post promotions) or other services, you may deposit funds into your in-app wallet. These payments are processed via third-party payment processors (such as Stripe) and will be paid to the App Owner. BeBelong does not store or process payment or card details directly.

  • Multiple Payment Gateways: You may link multiple payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, ACH, PayPal, etc.) to your account, allowing you to receive payments or transfers directly from other users who pay rent or transfer funds to app users who share the same payment method. BeBelong is not an intermediary and does not store or process payment or card details directly. We allow users to securely connect their payment gateway accounts (via OAuth or other secure methods), enabling users in the app to pay directly to each other. BeBelong may apply a commission on direct P2P transfers when users utilize their payment methods to pay rent or other services.

  • Non-Custodial Crypto Wallet Information: You can create a non-custodial crypto wallet within the app to store stablecoins or purchase BB Coin, which can be used for in-app services such as post promotion. All BB Coin transactions occur on the Polygon blockchain, and we use thirdweb for wallet management. We do not hold or control the wallet’s private keys.

  • FaceID Verification: We may request additional FaceID verification for security when accessing the app from a new device or location.

Payment Collection Setup: KYC & KYB Requirements

To collect payments for rent, utilities, and other property services through payment gateways like Stripe Connect, PayPal, or ACH, landlords are required to complete verification processes based on their account type:

  • Personal Account (KYC): Landlords using personal accounts must undergo Know Your Customer (KYC) verification. This process involves verifying the individual’s identity to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Business Account (KYB): Landlords representing a registered business must complete Know Your Business (KYB) verification. This includes validating the business’s legal status, ownership structure, and financial standing to ensure the legitimacy of the business entity.

These verification processes help maintain the integrity of our platform and ensure compliance with applicable laws.

  • Log and Device Information: We collect log data, such as your IP address, device information, operating system, browser type, and device identifiers. This data is used for troubleshooting, security, and usage analytics.

  • Automatically Collected Information:

Device and Usage Information: We collect information about your device, including IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, and device identifiers. We also track app interactions to improve user experience and provide personalized services.

OTP for Transfers: For each transfer, users will be required to enter a One-Time Password (OTP) to authorize the transaction. This additional layer of security helps protect against unauthorized transactions and fraud.

  • Automatically Collected Information:

Fraud prevention:
Applies to: Landlords using BeBelong via mobile or web app in the United States

1. Anti-Fraud Policy & Account Ownership Verification

Policy Overview:
At BeBelong, we are committed to protecting landlord accounts from fraudulent activities, account misuse, and scams. While we do not process or hold payments directly, we facilitate peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions using third-party services like Stripe, Plaid, and PayPal. To protect all users, we implement a range of measures to monitor account activities and identify suspicious behaviors.

Since BeBelong does not store or handle payments, we rely on third-party payment processors to manage transactions. Our monitoring focuses on potential misuse of the platform and behavior patterns that may suggest fraudulent activity.

2. Continuous Monitoring

Even though BeBelong does not directly process or hold payments, we continuously monitor your account for suspicious activity that could indicate fraud or abuse. This monitoring is essential to maintaining a secure and trusted platform.

Monitoring Focus Areas:

  • Suspicious Account Behavior:

    • Unusual login activity: We track login patterns and flag logins from unfamiliar devices, IPs, or locations.

    • Account access anomalies: If your account is accessed from multiple devices or unusual geographic locations, we may initiate additional verification steps.

  • Fraudulent Account Linking:

    • Suspicious linking: We monitor for accounts that may be linked to multiple profiles, such as the same bank or PayPal account used by different users.

    • Frequent changes to payment methods: Repeatedly changing your linked payment method could be flagged for review.

  • Abnormal Transaction Patterns:

    • Unusual frequency or amounts: We watch for large or rapid changes in transaction amounts, or an unusually high number of transfers or payment requests.

    • Failed payment attempts: Repeated failed payment attempts may indicate account misuse, and we will investigate any suspicious behavior.

  • In-App Behavior:

    • Rapid usage of in-app services: If you are using in-app features like promotions, wallet deposits, or advertising in an abnormal way, we flag these activities for review to prevent potential abuse.

3. How We Monitor with Third-Party Payment Processors (Stripe, Plaid, PayPal)

BeBelong does not process or store payment details directly, but we facilitate payment through third-party services like Stripe, Plaid, and PayPal. Although these processors handle the transactions, we still monitor activity to ensure secure usage of the platform.

Monitoring Process:

  • Third-Party Transaction Logs: While we don’t directly handle payments, payment gateways like Stripe and PayPal maintain transaction logs, which we can review to ensure no suspicious activity is happening.

  • Alerts from Payment Processors: If a payment processor detects fraudulent transactions, chargebacks, or disputes, they notify BeBelong. We take appropriate action, which may include temporarily suspending accounts for investigation.

  • Pattern Analysis: Even though payments are processed by third parties, we can still detect unusual account activity within the app. For instance, frequent large withdrawal requests or excessive payment transactions could trigger an internal review.

4. What We Do If Suspicious Activity is Detected

If any suspicious activity is detected on your account, BeBelong takes immediate action to ensure the security and integrity of the platform.

Actions Taken Include:

  • Account Locking: If we detect unusual activity, such as multiple failed payment attempts or rapid changes in account behavior, we may temporarily freeze the account while we investigate.

  • Manual Review: In cases of suspicious activity, we may conduct a manual review, which could involve contacting you for additional information or documentation to verify account ownership.

  • Communication with Payment Processors: If the activity involves third-party payment processors like Stripe, Plaid, or PayPal, we will coordinate with them to resolve the issue. If the fraudulent activity is confirmed, your account may be suspended or terminated.

5. Why Continuous Monitoring is Necessary

  • Protecting Users: Although BeBelong does not process payments directly, we must still ensure that no users are abusing the platform. By monitoring account behaviors and coordinating with third-party payment processors, we can help protect legitimate users from fraud.

  • Platform Integrity: Monitoring behaviors like unusual payment patterns or account misuse ensures that BeBelong remains a safe platform for all users, minimizing the risk of scam or fraudulent behavior.

  • Compliance: Fraud prevention is not only about protecting users, but also about ensuring BeBelong remains compliant with regulations and continues to provide a secure environment for all members.

6. Important Notes:

  • BeBelong facilitates P2P transactions: All payments and transfers between users are made directly through third-party gateways (Stripe, PayPal, Plaid) without BeBelong holding or processing the payments.

  • Non-Custodial Payments: BeBelong allows the use of an in-app wallet to buy credits for advertising services within the platform. However, these credits cannot be used for transfers to other users or withdrawn from the platform.

  • Crypto Wallet: BeBelong provides a non-custodial crypto wallet allowing landlords to buy and use BB Coin exclusively for platform services (like advertising). BB Coin cannot be traded within the platform or transferred to other users but can be transferred to an external wallet.
